About California Institute of Technology

The California Institute of technology is located in Pasadena in the USA. The aim of the institute is to expand human knowledge to the benefit of the population through research and educated. The institution was founded in the year 1891 and its strengths are in engineering and natural sciences; it is lovingly referred to as Caltech.

Caltech Pasadena is one of the world leaders in its field and has received many awards, with its academics being the recipients of 32 Nobel prizes and 49 medals of science. The faculty includes 84 fellows of the academy of arts and science and 74 members of the academy of science. As of 2008 there are 21,953 living alumni, 6,670 of whom have PhD degrees.

The California Institute of technology is small university that offers a very select range of subjects taught at to a very high standard. The six departments cover Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; Geological and Planetary Sciences; Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy; Humanities and Social Sciences; Biology; and Engineering and Applied Science.

Caltech Library

By far the tallest building on the Caltech campus is the Millikan Library. This is named after the Nobel prize winning physicist Robert Millikan who played a large role in the development of Caltech.
